Mr. Alexandros Kostopoulos

Sustainable Development Lead, METLEN

Alexandros Kostopoulos believes that businesses are the catalyst for the sustainable transition that we all now understand as a necessity. With almost 25 years of experience in the fields of Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), he has held senior managerial positions in corporations and business organizations and specializing in sustainable development and corporate responsibility.

Since 2024, he has been the Sustainable Development Lead at Metlen Group. In this capacity, he is primarily responsible for preparing the company’s annual Sustainable Development Report, formulating policies on sustainability, and coordinating relevant initiatives. He also monitors progress on quantitative CO2 reduction targets, and he plays a key role in Double Materiality and Stakeholder Engagement processes, while overseeing the implementation of responsible development practices with the company’s key suppliers.

Previously, until the end of 2022, he served as Director of CSR HELLAS (Greek Network for Corporate Social Responsibility), and earlier, as Development Manager, he was responsible for developing new educational and advisory initiatives and projects. From 2019 to 2022, he was a member of the Board of Directors of CSR Europe (The European Business Network for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility), contributing to the development of sustainability initiatives on a pan-European level.

He has coordinated numerous European and national funded programs, studies, and research, as well as organized several CSR events in Greece and abroad. He was also actively involved in the preparatory working group for the development of the Greek National CSR Strategy in 2014 and again in 2021. His international experience is further shaped by his close collaboration with the UN Global Compact through the Global Compact Network Hellas for several years. In 2016, he initiated the establishment of the business network for CSR and Sustainability in Cyprus (CSR Cyprus).

Through his roles, he has supported numerous businesses in better understanding the dimension of CSR and sustainability integration into their strategies by applying transformation tools to their business models. Additionally, he has coordinated the development of a series of training initiatives and programs implemented in collaboration with universities and business networks and organizations in Greece and abroad. He regularly contributes to the press and participates in international scientific publications on sustainability and corporate responsibility.
