Dr. Aspasia Tsaoussi

Associate Professor in Sociology of Law and Law & Economics, School of Law, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

Aspasia Tsaoussi is Associate Professor in Sociology of Law and Law & Economics at the School of Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). From 2001 to 2010 she taught various courses as a Visiting Assistant Professor at ALBA Graduate Business School (Athens) and its Master’s Programs. She also taught “Law & Economics” and “Economic Sociology” as an Adjunct Professor at the Athens University of Economics and Business (2008-2010), at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2001-2004) and at the School of Law of AUTh (2006-2010). She holds a Law Degree from the Law School of the Faculty of Law, Economic & Political Sciences (AUTh)( 1990) and a Master’s Degree (with highest honors) from the same Law Faculty, majoring in Sociology of Law (1993). She continued her graduate studies at the University of Chicago Law School, studying law & economics and legal sociology. She received her LL.M. Degree (summa cum laude) in 1995 and her PhD degree in 2000 (With Distinction), under the supervision of Prof. Gary S. Becker (Nobel Prize in Economics 1992) and Judge Richard A. Posner (Chief Judge, U.S. 7th Court of Appeals and the founding father of economic analysis of law). She has published widely and has presented her work in many conferences in Greece and abroad. She is an active member of several international scientific associations, a National Reporter for Greece of the International Association of Feminist Economics and the local coordinator of the European Network on Gender Equality in Higher Education. She has served as Scientific Advisor on cultural literacy in the Institute of Continuing Education of the Greek Ministry of Education. She has been actively involved with the Hellenic Mediation and Arbitration Center and the Hellenic Sociological Society as a founding member. She was an attorney and a member of the Thessaloniki Bar Association for 22 years. She is an accredited Mediator (Chartered Institute of Arbitrators) since 2008 and represents the Law School in the Hellenic National Mediation Committee. Prof. Tsaoussi is currently the Director of the Master’s Program on “Theory of Law and Interdiscplinary Legal Studies” (School of Law- AUTh).
