The American College of Greece

The American College of Greece (ACG) is a private, independent, non-profit educational organization founded in 1875 and the oldest and largest American-accredited educational institution in Europe.

Ove the years ACG has evolved into a multi-faceted institution, with more than 66,000 alumni worldwide,  serving annually over 7,000 students from Greece and more than 70 other countries. It currently comprises of three divisions: Pierce (primary and secondary education), Deree (undergraduate and graduate programs) and Alba Graduate Business School.

Faithful to its mission of providing equal access to high-quality education, ACG offers more than €8 million in scholarships and financial aid program.

In view of its 150th anniversary in 2025, The American College of Greece has launched ACG 150, a visionary strategic plan to leverage educational programs for economic and social impact, as well as to consolidate, support and expand ACG’s activities in performing research, creating technology and fostering innovation. As a leading academic institution spanning three educational divisions, ACG will be engaging in focused research and related projects and in creating new academic programs and initiatives that address the continuously changing landscape of the Greek and the global economies. ACG 150 initiatives bring together the academic, private and public sectors to ignite innovation and spur growth, empowering ACG to continue to cultivate the necessary soft and hard skills for our students—the leaders of tomorrow—equipping them as effective agents of change.

Human activity undeniably impacts nature and climate with devastating consequences on the planet and all its inhabitants. As a leading educational institution, Τhe American College of Greece (ACG) recognizes the environmental, economic, and social benefits of resource efficiency and commits to educate, inspire and empower its students, as well as faculty, staff, parents, alumni, trustees, and business partners, to develop a sustainability culture on campus, collaborating with the local community in promoting sustainability best practices.

ACG’s commitment to sustainability is comprehensive, touching upon all aspects of its academic offerings, as well as upon its research, operations, planning & administration, member engagement, innovation, and leadership. Globally recognized, in 2023, ACG achieved the prestigious STARS Gold Rating for the second time, by the Internationally acclaimed Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. ACG is among the over 900 academic institutions worldwide and the only academic institution in Greece to be systematically assessed for its sustainability best practices and to have received a distinction from AASHE. Additionally, through its membership in the UN Global Compact, the UN Academic Impact and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), ACG further advances and promotes the UN SDGs – and most importantly, Goal No 4: Quality Education. It should also be noted that in 2023, the Princeton’s Review Magazine listed us as one of the Greenest Colleges for the eighth consecutive year and in 2024 was rated as the 4th most sustainable institution in Greece according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking.

At ACG we place a strong emphasis on providing our students – the leaders of tomorrow – with the knowledge, values, and experiences needed to navigate this everchanging environment while acting as engaged and responsible citizens and professionals, in order to help create a more socially, economically and environmentally sustainable world.

The Office of Public Affairs leads all sustainability-related activity in terms of operations and engagement, to advance sustainability on campus by:

  • Strengthening the collaboration with and preparing the reports for various local and international organizations supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals;
  • Working with other ACG departments on implementing STARS recommendations;
  • Promoting new ACG policies;
  • Organizing awareness campaign and social impact activities engaging students, faculty and staff;
  • Organizing events on a variety of sustainability-related topics.

The Office of Sustainability – Public Affairs is working closely with the ACG 150 Center of Excellence in Sustainability (CoES), a pioneer Center focused on advancing sustainability in academics and conducting sustainability-related research.
